A great way to tackle the digital divide is by giving people the opportunity to empower themselves through training to get the most out of ICT. 3tc House has an excellent ICT Training Suite and offers both accredited and non-accredited courses. We can even provide bespoke training at employers premises and in community venues.
ICT Training
3tc is an accredited test centre for the British Computer Society (BCS), European Community Driving Licence (ECDL) and Information Technology Qualification (ITQ).
Our professional staff can deliver courses in 3tc’s modern Training Suite or at community venues if required. The charity has networked, flat-screen PC's with broadband internet access running popular software packages. 3tc also has a Virtual Learning Environment that includes a specialist computer-based training package enabling users to continue their learning away from 3tc House.
The Training Suite is air conditioned with natural daylight, has assistive technology and learning aids and a refreshment and relaxation area. 3tc House also has a limited number of free car-parking spaces protected by CCTV and parking bays for disabled people.

E-Type – Level 2
The Level 2 Certificate in Touch-Typing (e-type) comprises one unit, Touch-Typing Techniques. Learners are required to complete an end of unit assessment test in order to acquire the certificate.
NON-ACCREDITED COURSES
Basic Introduction to IT
To develop and enhance learners basic computer skills. Learners are taught how hardware and software interact and obtain a thorough grounding in the Windows operating system. This includes working with files, folders desktop icons and menus; internet basics and accessing online information sources; sending, receiving and managing e-mail accounts; creating documents, posters and letters; and how to save and print files.
Introduction to Microsoft Windows
To familiarise learners with Microsoft Windows main features including the desktop, display settings and using application windows. How to manage files and organise folders; manipulate windows and screens; perform file management techniques; use system tools, file compression and the Control Panel; view and change display settings; and Help.
Microsoft Word – Basic
To show learners how to use a word processor to produce and manipulate data. This includes creating documents; cutting, copying and pasting text; moving and amending text; accessing the spell checker function and Help menu; as well as applying styles, aligning text and altering font sizes.
Microsoft Word – Intermediate
To enhance and expand learners word processing knowledge. Learners explore using headers and footers; applying indentation, page breaks, and line spacing; using different paragraph styles; finding and replacing words; inserting and creating tables; mail merge, using templates and creating simple macros.
Microsoft Word – Advanced
To develop learners ability to use advanced word processing techniques. Learners are taught editing techniques, document layout, organisation and printing tasks, using master documents, creating complex tables and forms; using sophisticated macros and templates; tracking changes in a document and working with comments; creating tables of content and indexes; footnotes and endnotes, field codes and applying security features; as well as creating advanced mail merges.
Microsoft Excel – Basic
To show learners how to use a spreadsheet to produce and manipulate data. Creating and altering simple spreadsheets; carrying out basic calculations using formulae; applying formatting and editing techniques; copying, pasting and moving data; and saving and printing worksheets and workbooks.
Microsoft Excel – Intermediate
To enhance and expand learners spreadsheet knowledge. Using the more advanced features of the program; creating and altering more complicated spreadsheets; using advanced concepts; applying a range of auto formatting techniques; protecting workbooks and worksheets; adding, editing, creating and deleting comments; carrying out more complicated formulas and functions; using data filtering and auto advanced filters.
Microsoft Excel – Advanced
To give learners a more advanced understanding of the program. Creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets; manipulating charts and using scenarios; linking workbooks and using complex functions on various data types, tables and databases; using more complicated macros; applying auditing techniques to check for errors; and manipulating pivot tables.
Microsoft Access – Basic
To introduce learners to databases and show them how to use the programs main features. Understandng database concepts and design considerations; being familiar with the database window, tables, basic design rules and properties; knowing how to add, edit, filter and sort queries; applying properties to fields and undertaking validation checks; designing simple queries and understanding query properties and parameters; designing forms and producing reports using the program’s wizard; using simple calculated fields and creating labels.
Microsoft Access – Intermediate
To enhance and expand learners database knowledge. Creating more detailed datasheets and designs; using more sophisticated relationships; developing custom forms and reports; and undertaking action queries.
Microsoft Access – Advanced
To give learners a better understanding of how to accomplish more advanced operations using the program. Using more advanced features regarding field properties, relationship joins and action queries; creating and designing more complex databases including extensive use of form controls; running advanced queries and creating reports and group reports; using advanced action queries; and considering a range of import and export data options.
Microsoft PowerPoint – Basic
To show learners how to use a presentation application to create attractive and effective presentations. Opening, creating and retrieving presentations; using the standard and formatting toolbars and the programs various views; utilising auto layouts, wizards and presentation styles; creating text slides, slide layouts and knowing how to insert, copy, duplicate and move slides; inserting pictures, backgrounds and working with auto shapes; running a slide show and printing presentations using a variety of views and layouts
Microsoft PowerPoint – Intermediate
To enhance and expand learners ability to use a presentation application. Using the more advanced features of the program including accessing a range of colour schemes and background effects, clip art and drawing tools; manipulating images, adding animation, sound and video; creating and editing charts and flow charts; and creating links to other objects outside presentation and custom slide shows.
Introduction to Microsoft Outlook
To show learners how to effectively use and manage an e-mail application. Understanding e-mail concepts and terms; being able to create & send e-mail messages; editing and attaching files to e-mails; and managing personal distribution lists and message folders.
Introduction to Microsoft Publisher
To show learners how to use Microsoft Publisher to produce a range of professional looking publications and materials. Using and understanding different screen layouts, opening, saving and closing publications; editing and formatting text, using Word Art and applying effects; selecting, importing and resizing pictures; using wizards to quickly produce a range of publications including signs, flyers, certificates, business cards and brochures; and knowing how to access the programs extensive Help facilities,
Bespoke Workshop on Microsoft Project
To show learners how to use Microsoft Project to keep track of project plans. Creating project plans using the program, setting defaults and organising calendars including defining calendar project start and end dates; incorporating the project name, aims and objectives; setting project summary tasks; managing and entering tasks and milestones; defining links between tasks and links between projects; defining task constraints and deadlines; and structuring project plans.
Learners will also be able to undertake an overview of project resources and manage them, defining the resource pool, assigning resources to tasks and sharing resources; working with costs, defining task fixed costs and identifying alternative resources; undertaking an overview of resource allocation and considering over allocation; changing assignment units, replacing resources, splitting and re-scheduling tasks; tackling project plans, saving baselines, setting-up a progress line and updating the project plan with actuals; working with filters and groups; applying built-in filters; creating and using auto filters, built-in groupings and creating single multi-level groups; and printing using the built-in reports feature.
Bespoke Presentation Skills Training Workshop
Learners will receive bespoke training on how use presentational techniques to effectively get their message across e.g. when addressing panels or during interviews, when undertaking public speaking engagements etc. Learners will be able to identify and practice the key stages necessary in planning an effective and persuasive presentation; knowing how to use presentation aids to finesse and aid the target audience’s understanding of their message; using tactics to manage nerves; appreciating the importance of voice modulation and body language in presenting information effectively and to enhance working relationships; and being able to handle questions confidently.
3tc can also run courses such as desktop publishing, ICT taster sessions, surfing the net and using a digital camera and at different venues if so required (subject to prevailing staff commitments).
